Weekly Bulletin

President

Gloria O'Dowd

I was born in Woodville and schooled in Taranaki at Tarata, Egmont Village and Inglewood High Schools.  I went to Australia in 1979 for my big OE and met Bill and we married in 1989. I spent 14 years working for an International Manufacturing company in Sydney, in the Customer Service and order department.  I was the Customer Service Manager for 7 years. After this Bill and I ran our own retail business on the Central Coast of NSW for 19 years.  I had by this time spent 36 years living in Australia and we decided it was time to retire and in 2015 returned to New Zealand leaving behind our grown up children. We have 5 children between us, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  All of them live in the Australian states of New South Wales and South Australia.  I have been a Rotarian since August 2006.

MESSAGE FROM YOUR EDITOR:

I hope you are enjoying reading the weekly bulletin. If you have any ideas on how we can improve on it please let me know and I would be very happy to implement if possible.

Some weeks we have little to no photos to include in the bulletin and when this happens I was thinking it would be nice if you would like to have a section for personal photos. Photos of perhaps personal projects, family celebrations, holidays and trips etc. This way we can all learn more about each other.  If you have photos you would like to include please email to me at  traceyrees17@gmail.com

WEEKLY MEETING NOTES
Zoom Meeting
24 August 2021

Greetings Rotarians,

It is a little hard to get motivated to sit at the computer when I have so much crocheting I can be doing.  I have even neglected my yard but I do a daily visit to admire my daffodils.

Thankyou to those Rotarians that tuned in on Tuesday night at 6.45pm via Zoom.  We did have some apologies of Noel, Graham M and Brian.

As you can gather, our BBQ at The Warehouse at Bell Block this Sunday 29th August is now cancelled.
However, we do have one booked for Blue September at New World Inglewood for the 9th October so lets hope this one can go ahead.

Marinoto 50th Birthday celebration set for the 18th September will be confirmed as on or  postponed on the 3rd September.  I will keep you all updated.

We did a very casual What Have I been up to:  The list was good and bad.  From mowing lawns to now having a broken lawn mower, washing windows, painting gates, baking and eating it and Jim S ending up in ED for 5 hours after taking a lot of skin off his shin.  Wishing you a speedy recovery Jim.

Included in this email is an update on the Rarotonga Medical Bus.  Thankyou Stuart for passing this on for all members to read.

Stuart suggests we encourage new members to join a Zoom/E club meeting once a month to discuss current projects that are happening.  This may encourage younger people to join us as they can do it from their home.  More discussions to come on this.

RL101 Rotary Training was on Zoom on Tuesday afternoon as well.  Not a lot of notice was given but Taranaki Network is asking if we could have this training as part of a normal meeting even if 2 clubs meet at the same time.  One suggestion was training in “working with younger people and how to bridge the age gap”.

NEXT WEEKS IZOOM MEETING:
I am putting in a request for you all to get involved in next weeks

“CRAZY HAT NIGHT OR JUST FAVOURITE HAT”

Please get on line at 6.45 next week and lets all catch up face to face.  Keep an eye out for Mel's email.  If you get stuck getting into the zoom link that is sent to you, please call Mel.

On a final note, containers for community meals may be available next week, if we get to level 3.
Please let me know if you would like some and I can do a contactless delivery.  We have one family locally that would love us to make some meals so if you have any ready please contact myself.  If not I will get you the containers and if you would like to put a few family dinners in your freezers for now or after Level 4, please let me know.  We love our community so lets help look after those less fortunate in both health and finances.

Lastly, stay home, stay safe
Pres Gloria
