President 2020-2021

Warren Poehler
I've been married to Diane for 53 years and we have two children and two grandaughters. Diane and I moved to NZ from the USA in 2016. Before that we spent 11 years here in New Plymouth in the 1980's. I am a retired military officer and engineer, a teacher, a head of school and have owned a B&B in Rhode Island USA.  I have been a Rotarian since 2006.

Warren spoke of his unfortunate loss of water at their home. The rainwater tank had become empty with the landlord’s lack of care with the roof drains. They were out of water for three days while the pump was serviced.
While many or even most of us have had it hard over the last year, there are countless more who have had it harder and died. Let us consider our good fortunes and be thankful to still be here among friends and enjoying the bounties of a New Zealand life.
I hope you are enjoying reading the weekly bulletin. If you have any ideas on how we can improve on it please let me know and I would be very happy to implement if possible.
Some weeks we have little to no photos to include in the bulletin and when this happens I was thinking it would be nice if you would like to have a section for personal photos. Photos of perhaps personal projects, family celebrations, holidays and trips etc. This way we can all learn more about each other.  If you have photos you would like to include please email to me at
MEETING NOTES 26 January 2021:
The meeting was brought to order at 6:00 pm by Warren Poehler.
PRESENT: Twelve members were present
TOAST: May we raise our glasses to toast to our nation and Rotary. May the Car Show be successful!
GRACE: May our Lord bless this meeting and the food we are about to eat. We pray for comfort for those who are not well. Help us to be mindful of all those who are less fortunate than us and help us find a way to help them.--Amen
MENU: Bacon and Egg Pie, peas, potato salad, with Ice cream and fruit salad.
Warren was happy his favourite football quarterback Tom Brady, now a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, will have another opportunity to go to the Super Bowl with his new-found team.
Diane, doubled-down by others, (and the World it seems) was happy that we have mostly seen the back of Trump.
Jim C spoke on how his daughter, an ex policewoman, has a job spending all day helping others in need.
Gloria was happy her garden is growing
Tracey was happy she has viewed one extremely large potato in her potato crop
Mel spoke about Stuart having improved spirits and dealing positively with his medical situation. We hope to see him as a speaker early in March. He continues to have infections that are being dealt with. He has a new mobility scooter.
Jim S. spent a night in the hospital with a skin condition and infection, but improving.
Kevin was happy to have meetings back after the holidays.
Graham M. spoke of Jenny’s cancer in her face, dealing with pain constantly. He was also put out that he was refused a driving license, due his doctor writing a bad report. He’ll be going for a second opinion after the current doctor leaves.
Looking towards our goals, the following have been approved:
The Club seek to sponsor three students for RYPEN 2021 and three students for RYPEN 2022-cost 250 each, funding pending. Gloria reminded us that the candidates should be from promising students in the upper middle, rather than from the head boys or head girls.
The Club purchase one ERK for the year 2021-2022-cost 600
The Club agrees to share within the Taranaki Network the cost of a Shelter Box in the year 2021-2022, share to be determined.  We wonder if Rotary branding can be included in news releases from the media regarding emergency responses.
Jim S. asked that we loan our cups for an event for a friend--approved.
Mel mentioned that Marinoto will be having its 50 year anniversary in April. Being that we were the group that helped organize the Trust at Marinoto in the beginning, we are being asked to take part in the celebration. Plans to be made.
We completed arrangements for the Charity Car Show 31 January. The Stratford Club has thankfully volunteered five helpers on the day.
We are always wanting to have interesting activities and speakers at our meetings. All are asked to find among our collective friendships and associates people who may want to visit with us to share their experiences for an evening. On that note, we are always looking for friends and associates who may want to share our endeavours to help others by being Rotary members.
ROTTO DRAW: Number 13 with Diane the winner.

Members News:
Message from Leanne - Larger tupperware or storage containers wanted.
I've been busy filling requests for family size meals for a number of organisations and could really do with some large containers with lids (bigger than an icecream container) that I can freeze large family meals into then give them away. Anyone have anything suitable cluttering up their cupboard they'd like to give away?
