MESSAGE FROM YOUR EDITOR:
I'm sorry you haven't received a bulletin for a few weeks. I have had laptop issues but hopefully that is all sorted now.

I hope you are enjoying reading the weekly bulletin. If you have any ideas on how we can improve on it please let me know and I would be very happy to implement if possible.

Some weeks we have little to no photos to include in the bulletin and when this happens I was thinking it would be nice if you would like to have a section for personal photos. Photos of perhaps personal projects, family celebrations, holidays and trips etc. This way we can all learn more about each other.  If you have photos you would like to include please email to me at  traceyrees17@gmail.com

MEETING NOTES 27 April 2021:

The meeting was brought to order by President Warren Poehler at 6:00 pm

PRESENT: Sixteen members and 9 guests, including two RYPEN graduates from Inglewood High School and Kay Kendall, Deputy District Governor.

APOLOGIES: Stuart (but present in spirit)

TOAST: A toast to our RYPEN students from Inglewood High School and the many guests whom we welcome heartilly.

GRACE: Lord, bless this food we are about partake. We pray this day following ANZAC Day for those lost in wars around the world in the preservation and salvation of our nation and the free peoples of the earth.

MENU: Baked chicken, beef stew, broccoli, peas, herb and cheese baked potato, bread, with Gloria’s rhubarb and apple crumb with ice cream and custard.

WELCOME: Buenos tardis! Warren welcomed all those present at this last meeting for Warren and Diane for quite some time. They will be leaving for the USA on 6 May 2021 for Warren to have several surgeries done. They would not be able to return until after the border is open for
Americans--probably a year or more. In the USA, the first item of business will be to get vaccinated for COVID--it should be an easy task.

He and Diane plan to seek a Club in the USA for attendance and service, but keep their membership in the Inglewood Club current. Warren hopes a Zoom arrangement can be made so he, Diane and Stuart can virtually attend meetings. He intends to donate their TV to the Club to help enable this.

To keep himself busy, he has started online Spanish lessons, which will be a good thing for living in the Southwest of the United States, where Spanish is spoken by many. He is looking into part-time teaching as an Adjunct Professor at a local college or university. He and Diane may take up similar tutoring they have done at the Inglewood Primary School. Diane is considering her other options.

We are pleased that Inglewood Rotary has achieved the Presidential Citation for 2020-2021 with the hard work members have done to achieve 17 goals out of the possible 24 goal categories. The completion of many projects through the year have contributed heavily to the welfare of our community and around the world.

Gloria remarked on how successful this year has been with record fundraising on all fronts, particularly the BBQs, Movie Night for Polio and the Charity Car Show.

Warren talked of his moving experience laying the wreath at the ANZAC service on Sunday morning.

Kay Kendall, Deputy District Governor, expressed a few words thanking Warren for his time with the Club and how she felt his leadership this year was remarkable.

BUSINESS:
The receipt of the grant from TET will enable the Club to replace the roof of Inglewood Rotary House over the next several months, leading to increased rentals and be a better asset for the community. The Club voted to grant that the Trustees sign the requisite contracts with the contractors for the work, which may be delayed until July.

The Club voted to pay the remaining $500 to Rotary Foundation to meet our goal of $1700 for the year 2020-2021.

Gloria created a slideshow of Warren’s events during the year. It showed a variety of images showing Warren’s activities during the year. The gift of the slideshow was gratefully received by Warren and Diane.

HAPPIES AND SADS:
Warren was sad that his car he is selling to Brian developed a small glitch to be repaired by Kevin.

Graham Drake was happy to have harvested a fine meal of muscles at Mokau.

Graham Meades has had good satisfying success in his garden.

Donald had a meeting regarding water quality and wanted to report that Lake Ratapiko has the third best water for swimming in Taranaki.

Bill was sad that the ANZAC service had omitted the National anthem and failed to do the flag raising/lowering improperly.

Noel was unhappy the contractors have been delayed in their start of work on the roof.

Mel was happy to be marching in the ANZAC parade with daughter.

Grant went to a conference in Hastings where there was an excellent oyster bar. However, for dietary reasons he did not partake.

Hannah and Marco were happy to be here.

Gloria was happy to have finished painting her cottage.

Jim Callahan was happy about a couple movies he has seen.

Jim Shepherd feels honored to be playing the bagpipes at the ANZAC events. He played Sunday at both the He had a joke: There is a story about a fellow who was a security aide for The Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke would regularly call his aide directly. One time he called and the man’s 5 year-old son answered. The Duke asked for the father. The son asked who it was and got a reply of: The Duke of Edinburgh. However, the son yelled out to his father, “Dad, there is some guy on the phone from some pub.”

GUESTS: Hannah Knight and Marco Brown from Inglewood High School attended the RYPEN 2021 in March 2021. They spoke to the Club in turn about their experiences and how the opportunity has improved their outlook for the future. They felt most remarkable was the extent to how the opportunity helped them improve their self-confidence. Hannah expressed that the camp helped her develop her ability to get out of her “old comfort zone.”

Warren announced he would be stepping down as President and Noel would be picking up the role. Gloria would be carrying on from 1 July and Mel would be president 2022-2023.

Message from Leanne - Larger tupperware or storage containers wanted.
I've been busy filling requests for family size meals for a number of organisations and could really do with some large containers with lids (bigger than an icecream container) that I can freeze large family meals into then give them away. Anyone have anything suitable cluttering up their cupboard they'd like to give away?
