I've been married to Diane for 53 years and we have two children and two grandaughters. Diane and I moved to NZ from the USA in 2016. Before that we spent 11 years here in New Plymouth in the 1980's. I am a retired military officer and engineer, a teacher, a head of school and have owned a B&B in Rhode Island USA.  I have been a Rotarian since 2006.

Mel had a list of stories of the members from their childhoods. The task was to read the stories and try to match accurately the stories to the personages.
Warren had a spelling bee exercise, where members needed to spell difficult words. All did well.
Graham Drake spoke to us about his two weeks of cycling in the South Island, some days doing 70 km. Took the ferry, drove onward through Kaikoura for a no-see whale watch--apparently the whales were away on vacation. On to Geraldine for the guided
round-trip ride. Stops included Mt Cook, Lake Wanaka, Poukaki, Twaisel, Oahu, Bigmore Dam, Oamaru, returning to Geraldine, Arthurs Pass, Hokitika, Treetops Walkway, Pancake Rocks and Nelson, returning to Wellington and home..

I hope you are enjoying reading the weekly bulletin. If you have any ideas on how we can improve on it please let me know and I would be very happy to implement if possible.
Some weeks we have little to no photos to include in the bulletin and when this happens I was thinking it would be nice if you would like to have a section for personal photos. Photos of perhaps personal projects, family celebrations, holidays and trips etc. This way we can all learn more about each other.  If you have photos you would like to include please email to me at
MEETING NOTES 9 February 2021:
The meeting was brought to order at 6:00 pm by Warren Poehler.
PRESENT: Twelve members were present
APOLOGIES: Bill, Gloria, Stuart, Grant, Tracey
TOAST: May we raise our glasses to toast to our nation and Rotary. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Superbowl Champions
GRACE: May our Lord bless this meeting and the food we are about to eat. We pray for comfort for those who are not well. --Amen
MENU: Beef lasagna, garlic bread, summer salad, ice cream and peaches
Warren was happy his favourite quarterback Tom Brady won the Super Bowl with his team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mel had a wonderful evening with the Stratford cricket club. There was an auction for a fully-autographed Team New Zealand cricket shirt auctioned for over $4000.
Leanne had a fun cycle trip.
Jim C was so impressed with Jim Shepherd getting the Charity Car Show accounts so quickly last week.
Brian was displeased over the Air New Zealand engine maintenance contract for foreign governments
The person who has been mowing the lawn is retiring. We considered doing it ourselves. Boyd Loverage will do it for an increased cost. Jim was asked to proceed as long as the new cost is reasonable.
Jim is going to have a meeting for Americarna to work out details this coming week. Warren is organganizing a BBQ for Americarna.
There may be a very large vintage car show next year, possibly mid-January 2022, for which Inglewood Rotary may park cars as well as Americarna.

Members News:
Message from Leanne - Larger tupperware or storage containers wanted.
I've been busy filling requests for family size meals for a number of organisations and could really do with some large containers with lids (bigger than an icecream container) that I can freeze large family meals into then give them away. Anyone have anything suitable cluttering up their cupboard they'd like to give away?
