Graham Drake told us of his love of working with timbers on the lathe and brought in a selection of wooden eggs he  made from different timbers and asked us to identify them.
Gloria - I have been making more rhubarb and ginger jam and rhubarb, apple and feijoa crumbles. Took a run out to Taranaki retreat with some of both. I have finally sorted and filed the last 3 years of documents for Charity Car Show. With Bill under the weather, have been doing most of the cooking.
Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society.  The optimist invents the aeroplane and the pessimist invents the parachute. George Bernard Shaw
I hope you are enjoying reading the weekly bulletin. If you have any ideas on how we can improve on it please let me know and I would be very happy to implement if possible.
Some weeks we have little to no photos to include in the bulletin and when this happens I was thinking it would be nice if you would like to have a section for personal photos. Photos of perhaps personal projects, family celebrations, holidays and trips etc. This way we can all learn more about each other.  If you have photos you would like to include please email to me at

Kelvin and Pam Frederickson on Jet Boating in NZ. Their first boat was a fibreglass boat that they got  when the Patea river diversion was being done. Holed their first one so went to aluminium.  Preferring to river boating than ocean. Joined NZ Jet Boat club in 1981 – their first trip was on the Whanganui River. - a bad trip for many reasons and a few had to be towed to Tamaranui and then trailered.  Competitions are testing skills on the water – just not speed. First boat was called Dynamite and could do 80km per hour.  Upgraded to a boat called Beeline and this one could do 130 km per hour.  Boats can now do 200km per hour. Fastest time recorded by a boat was 17 minutes for a 40km each way race on the Patea river. Kelvin and Pam no longer race but do assist with medic patrol during races and use their boat as a pleasure craft. Kelvin is very skilled at “shooting the shingle” when the water is low.  Kelvin has won 5 national rally titles.  During these there is 8 -10 events per day.

Members News:
Message from Leanne - Larger tupperware or storage containers wanted.
I've been busy filling requests for family size meals for a number of organisations and could really do with some large containers with lids (bigger than an icecream container) that I can freeze large family meals into then give them away. Anyone have anything suitable cluttering up their cupboard they'd like to give away?
